Our goals for this week!

We changed our liquids into a solid by adding cold!

We made ice cream today! The temperature of our ice before we added rock salt was 0 degrees Celsius. After we added our rock salt, the temperature dropped to an amazingly frigid -12 degrees Celsius! The ice cream was frozen and delicious!

Great Start!

We've had a great start to our Math and Science class this year! As you can see on our blog, we recently added a member to our class. Please welcome our class tadpole named Spike! Spike was the name given by majority vote in our classes! We observe and record the changes seen in him daily!

In science, we've been learning about lab safety, scientists, and matter. We have learned that matter is classified into 3 categories: Liquids, Solids, and Gases. We are also using our 5 senses to describe the properties of matter. This week we are going to continue describing properties, but we are also going to be changing our matter from solids to liquids, liquids to solids, and liquids and solids to gases by adding heat or cold!  It will be exciting!

In math, we've been reviewing place value from the ones, tens, and hundreds place. This is something your student should know from 2nd grade. We learn up to the hundred thousands place in 3rd grade, but we wanted to take our time and review right here at the first of school. We started rounding to the nearest 10 and 100's too! The grocery store is a great place to let your student practice how and why we need rounding!

PLEASE be reviewing math addition and subtraction facts at home. It will make their learning a whole lot easier and faster! We need to know our facts by memory!
Our new class pet! We are going to watch first hand the "Life Cycle of a Frog"! Have your student start thinking of a name for him... or her!?
